From the front, the Atlas makes a stylish statement. The powerful three-bar grille on the front fascia extends into the front light signature, giving it a refined appearance. Full-LED illumination is standard on headlights, including low beams, high beams, and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs); taillights are also LEDs. With Volkswagen's Adaptive Front-lighting System, SEL and higher versions get standard 900-lumen LED headlights (AFS). All models come equipped with automatic headlights and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Black headlights and taillights, as well as black front and rear fascia, door mouldings, mirror caps, and roof rails, are available.

The Atlas' interior is vintage Volkswagen—clean, utilitarian, and with a luxury feel. Simple, driver-centric displays increase interaction behind the wheel, and driver controls are positioned for the best ergonomics and use. The seat posture, shifter height, and pedal spacing have all been built with the driver in mind. The 2023 model delivers a high-end atmosphere that belies its affordable starting price, thanks to optional contrast stitching on the surfaces and door trim, as well as on the steering wheel.

Volkswagen MIB touchscreen infotainment systems are standard on all 2023 Atlas variants. Instead of the more conventional resistive touchscreens that need pressure, the displays use a capacitive-touch sensor (as in smartphone and tablet technology), allowing for swiping and even pinch-zooming. App-Connect smartphone integration for compatible devices is standard, and customers may utilize services like Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and MirrorLink® to run chosen smartphone apps directly on the vehicle's display.

All Atlas models come equipped with the innovative Volkswagen Digital Cockpit technology, which has an entirely digital instrument cluster. It also comes equipped with an 8.0-inch display with two perspectives and customizable widgets for displaying a range of vehicle data. Upgrade to a 10.25-inch fully adjustable Digital Cockpit Pro with three views—including full-screen navigation for equipped models—and 21 viewing choices, including car status, navigation, driving statistics, phone information, driver assistance systems, and more on higher models.

With the 2023 Atlas, you control just how much power you want in it. Make light work of your next haul thanks to the 2.0 TSI engine. Or, if more power is your thing, switching to a 3.6L V6 engine gives you 5000 lbs of towing with a braked trailer.

Volkswagen’s 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel-drive system is available with both V6 and turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain options. The latest-generation 4Motion system is designed to activate before wheelspin occurs, helping eliminate traction losses. The system achieves this by using an advanced control function based on specific driving conditions. When operating under a relatively low load or when coasting, the front wheels are driven, and the rear wheels are decoupled, a feature designed to help to save fuel. However, the rear wheels can be engaged in fractions of a second whenever necessary via the center differential, activated by an electro-hydraulic oil pump.

To help protect occupants, the Atlas provides a combination of both passive and active safety systems. It features six airbags as standard (front and side airbags for front passengers and side curtain airbags for outboard seating positions), along with several electronic safety systems, such as an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). All Atlas models feature a standard rearview camera. If the vehicle senses an impending collision with a pedestrian, Front Assist will warn the driver with an audible tone. The feature is also designed to apply the brakes under certain conditions automatically, so if the driver doesn’t react, the vehicle can. Stay on the safe side with Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor). Using a bright warning light, the system alerts you when it detects a vehicle you could collide with when changing lanes. The available Lane Assist alerts you and keeps you in the correct lane when you stray into another lane without using your turn signals.
